90th Academy Awards Predictions

 

It's that time of year again, the Oscars. While many great films were released, a few were honored with an Academy Award nomination. Each were the result of thousands of artists, artisans and business people, hoping to achieve a distinction that might mark the pinnacle of their careers. Win or lose, it will be a night that none forget.

 
 

Here are my predictions, in order of presentation at the show:

Best Supporting Actor: Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri)

Makeup & Hairstyling: Darkest Hour

Costume Design: Phantom Thread

Documentary Feature: Last Men in Aleppo (Icarus could upset)

Sound Editing: Dunkirk

Sound Mixing: Dunkirk

Best Supporting Actress: Allison Janney (I, Tonya)

Foreign Language Film: A Fantastic Woman

Animated Short Film: “Lou”

Animated Feature: Coco

Production Design: The Shape of Water

Visual Effects: War for the Planet of the Apes (Blade Runner 2049 could upset)

Film Editing: Dunkirk

Documentary Short Subject: “Edith+Eddie”

Live Action Short Film: “DeKalb Elementary”

Cinematography: Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049)

Original Score: Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water)

Original Song: “Remember Me” from Coco ("This is Me" from The Greatest Showman could upset)

Original Screenplay: Martin McDonaugh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri)

Adapted Screenplay: James Ivory (Call Me By Your Name)

Best Director: Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water)

Best Actor: Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour)
